ALLEGED FAKE LAWYER ARRAIGNED IN BAUCHI, COURT ADJOURNS RULING ON BAIL

Proceedings were held today at the Chief Magistrate Court 1, Bauchi, in a criminal matter involving an alleged fake lawyer, Hassan Mijinyawa, who was arraigned on FIR bordering on impersonation, forgery, and the unauthorized use of a Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) stamp and seal.
The Case No: CMCBH/139/2026, was instituted following a complaint by a legal practitioner who alleged that the defendant, a non-lawyer, unlawfully held himself out as a legal practitioner and used an NBA stamp and seal without lawful authority.

At today’s sitting, the defendant, Hassan Mijinyawa, was formally arraigned before the court. The prosecution presented the Fir where the nominal complainant Adam Tanko Jibril Esq put appearance watching brief for himself, while the defendant made an application for bail on.

After listening to submissions from both parties, the Presiding Magistrate His Worship Adam Isma’il adjourned the matter to 6th February, 2026, for ruling on the bail application.

The defendant was remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Center Bauchi pending the court’s decision on the ball application.

The matter has continued to draw public attention due to its implications for the integrity of the legal profession and the administration of justice, as cases of impersonation and misuse of professional identity pose serious risks to the public.

The case comes up next on 6th February, 2026, at Chief Magistrate Court 1, Bauchi, for ruling on bail.

However, Adam Tanko Jibril, Esq wrote to the Hon. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Bauchi State to take-over based under granted to him by Section 211 of the 1999 CFRN (as amended) 2011.
