NBA Human Rights Committee Bwari Branch (Cradle Bar), Magistrate Visits Police Station to Boost Cell Decongestion

In a remarkable demonstration of social responsibility, the Human Rights Committee (HRC) of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA Bwari Branch (Cradle Bar) in collaboration with his worship Nonye Okoronkwo Chiemene Esq, embarked on police station (Bwari Police Division and Ushafa Police Division) visitation, cell inspection and decongestion on Tuesday, 27th of May, 2025.

The Human Rights Committee NBA Bwari Branch led by its Vice Chairman, Hajarat Gbolagade Esq report that there were Fifteen (15) detainees at the Bwari Police Station. A total of Ten (10) Males, Five (5) Females. While at the Ushafa Police Station, there was a total of Four (4) Males, Zero (0) Female, some suspects were granted bail while others were ordered to be charged to court by the Magistrate.

It is pertinent to note that the Nigerian Bar Association Bwari Branch along with the Magistrate, regularly conduct inspection visits to police stations and detention facilities in both Bwari and Ushafa Police Division respectively. These visits are part of an effort to ensure the fair and just treatment of detainees, and to address concerns raised by the public. The visits also allow lawyers from the NBA Bwari to offer free legal assistance to detainees. 

The Human Rights Committee of the NBA Bwari Branch had earlier accompanied the Chief Judge of FCT High Court on a Prison visitation to the Suleja Correctional Centre on the 22nd of May, 2025.
