To “Uncle O”: A Birthday Tribute of Thanks and Reflection

By Henry Barnabas Ehi, MICA

Happy Birthday, Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata!

On this special day, I celebrate not just your remarkable public achievements, but the personal impact your leadership has had on me and, by extension, on countless young lawyers across the country.

When I joined the NBA Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL) as a scholarship recipient in 2018, I witnessed firsthand your unwavering belief in investing in younger lawyers. Because of that belief, I gained access to conferences, learning opportunities, and professional networks that have continued to shape my career.

Under your administration as President of the Nigerian Bar Association, the welfare committee’s initiative on health insurance for lawyers began to move from an idea to a tangible reality. For me, that wasn’t just another policy it was hope. It reflected your genuine concern for the wellbeing of lawyers and your determination to make the profession more humane and supportive.

Your “work hard, play hard” philosophy has also been a lesson in balance. You have shown that excellence does not require the sacrifice of joy, community, or rest. Through your example, you have taught us that fulfilment in the legal profession lies not only in success, but also in living a life of purpose and harmony.

As you mark another year, may this birthday renew in you the same inspiration you have given to so many of us. May you continue to lead with courage, to care deeply, and to champion a better future for every young lawyer who looks up to you. Above all, may your life be filled with joy, peace, and lasting fulfilment.

Thank you for being a mentor, a trailblazer, and a shining example of how one person’s dedication can truly transform an entire system.

Happy Birthday, Uncle O!
