My Learned Colleagues,
Today, in the ecclesiastical calendar, we commemorate Saint Valentine.
His legacy is one of profound courage: he was a Priest who was martyred in 270 AD for sharing love and performing acts of faith in open defiance of a State order.
As Legal Practitioners, we find a deep resonance in his story. We are a body of professionals who pursue justice for the oppressed, the poor, and the defenceless citizens of our society. Our work is not merely a career, but a noble pursuit rooted in the protection of human dignity.
Let us use this day to renew our commitment to this love-sharing, noble profession. May we strive even harder to be the voice for those who have none and the shield for those in need.
Happy Valentine’s Day, colleagues.
